Insanity Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs DVD Review

I recently tried out another Insanity DVD and wanted to let you know how it went.  This time I completed Insanity Pure Cardio & Cardio Abs.  Once again….It’s hard as crappppp! Insanity is no joke, people!!!  Here’s a glimpse of what the workout looked like…

This whole workout was done in my living room with no equipment needed…just me and the DVD (and my very curious & concerned Doberman puppy as well) 🙂

Warm-up –

  • Jog
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Heisman
  • Heisman 1-2-3
  • Butt Kicks
  • High Knees
  • Mummy Kicks

Repeat Warm-up 3 times

Finally you get a break for water! The warm-up is killer…as always.  It lasted about 10 minutes and is TOUGH!  My heart rate was super high and I had a great sweat going on.  At this point…tank top came off and it’s sports bra time!  I needed a rag to wipe my face throughout the workout..and I was hot.  That’s the beauty of working out at home 🙂  Sports bra workouts seem to be the common trend when I do these Insanity workouts!

Shaun T then takes you through the stretch routine.

One more water break before it’s GO time again…

Level 1 Workout –

  • Suicide Drills
  • Switch Kicks
  • Wide football sprints (turning, down, sprint)
  • Stance Jacks
  • Pedal to Lunge
  • Hooks & Jump rope
  • Power Jacks

Level 2 Workout –

  • 8 push-ups, run it out, jump
  • Frog Jumps
  • Power Knees
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Ski Down
  • Scissor Runs
  • Suicide Jumps
  • Push-up Jacks

Each workout in Level 1 and Level 2 last about a minute each.

Water Break.

You’ll then complete a cool down stretch and you’re finally DONE!

Results:

Time: 38:18
Calories: 370
Avg Heart Rate: 154
Max Heart Rate: 180

I thought this workout was very similar to the others in the series.  It introduced new moves and workouts, and was TOUGH to get through.  I consider myself in good athletic shape at this point of my life, but I still found myself having to take several extra water breaks throughout the 38 min workout.  I was drenched in sweat after it was over and had a feeling of accomplishment when it was done.

Before the workout, I brought my yoga mat to my living room thinking that there may be some times that I’ll lay on the floor for abs because the title of the DVD is “Pure Cardio & Cardio ABS”, but I never needed the mat.  There was no specific ab workout in this DVD which I found pretty strange.  I guess when he said ABS, he just meant that a lot of the workouts will strengthen your core as well.  Remember to always keep your core tight when doing any work out!!!

Shaun T is INTENSE!  Right after the warm-up…even Shaun T says that’s he was really scared for this workout because it’s a tough one.  When Shaun T says that…you know you’re in for a treat!
